
The Mother’s Union
The Mothers’ Union, a worldwide movement, holds faith in the family as the
most vital building block of a stable and healthy society. Membership is open
to all women who have been baptized in the name of the Holy Trinity and
intend to support and work for the aims, purposes and objectives of the
society.
The movement was founded in 1876, in the Church of England, by Mary
Sumner, the wife of an Anglican clergyman. It is currently found in over sixty
countries worldwide with membership in excess of one million. The St. Mary’s
organization was formed in 1928 by Rev. Canon W. Grant Murray. The
purpose of the Mothers’ Union is to strengthen and preserve marriage and
family life.
Times of meeting:
The second Tuesday of each month.
Current Programmes or Projects:
a) Assisting with the preparation of breakfast at the St. Mary’s Home
b) Assisting with transportation for about five to eight Sunday School children
c) Assisting a needy family (a mother and three children, aged 5 to 12 years)
d)The annual concert on the second Sunday in August (for the work of the
Church)
e) Visits to the sick and shut-ins.
Other Relevant Information
Fund raising drives, e.g., cake sales and jumble sales are conducted during
the year. Funds collected are distributed to needy and shut-in members of the
organization. During Senior Citizens’ month (September) food hampers are given to shut-ins
and needy persons.
Membership
Young mothers are invited to join the organization.
